Ethereum 2.0, statistics on deposits

Ethereum 2.0 deposits

Vitalik Buterin has published on Twitter some statistics on deposits for Ethereum 2.0

These are in particular data related to those ETH that have been deposited by future Beacon Chain nodes, and that will be used for the genesis block.

Furthermore, they do not refer to the people who made the deposits, but to the public addresses from which they arrived.

As many as 1,400 depositors have deposited only the 32 ETH required to become validator nodes, while for example, less than 400 have deposited 64 or 96, and a few hundred have deposited more.

However, most tokens arrived from deposits between 16,384 and 32,736 ETH.

In other words, an extremely limited number of addresses deposited most of the tokens

In fact, 63.1% of all deposited ETH came from addresses that individually deposited 1,024 or more.

At today’s prices, 1,024 ETH correspond to more than $600,000.

More than half of the deposits have been made in the last few days, with a real take-off of the number of ETH deposited in the two days prior to reaching the minimum threshold necessary for the launch of phase zero of Ethereum 2.0.

Large holders have increased deposits of Ethereum 2.0

These data clearly reveal that the deposits necessary to reach the threshold have come mainly from large ETH holders, probably interested in playing an active part in the development of the new protocol as validator nodes of the new Beacon Chain.

This is a very limited number of people or companies that own very large amounts of tokens, such as those who deposited between 16,384 and 32,736 ETH. In fact, at current prices, it is a countervalue between 9 and 20 million dollars, and although these were very few, they are still responsible alone for more than 17% of all ETH deposited on the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract.

The nodes, however, will be many, despite the fact that over 1,400 addresses that have paid only 32 ETH are responsible for only 6.6% of the tokens deposited.

However, the amount of ETH paid will only have implications on the distribution of the staking rewards, and not on the performance of the Proof-of-Stake protocol.
