Feds ‘Seize’ $1 Billion in Bitcoin Linked to Silk Road
1 min readThe US Department of Justice today announced that it has seized $1 billion worth of seized Bitcoin from the defunct Silk Road darkweb market and that it is suing for the forfeiture of the money, reported Bloomberg.
Funds moved Tuesday from a cryptocurrency wallet holding 69,370 Bitcoin. This is the first time they moved since 2015.
Blockchain investigation firms linked the coins to the Silk Road, a huge darkweb marketplace shut down by the FBI in 2013, reported Bloomberg. The Feds apparently seized the funds from an anonymous hacker. This may have been the fourth largest Bitcoin address.
