Grogu: How to see Baby Yoda in 3D on Google Search – and other new AR features to explore

Everyone’s favourite characters from a galaxy far far away can now be transported to your home after the latest collaboration between Google and Disney.

Baby Yoda, the breakout star of the Disney+ Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, is available to download in AR so he can be viewed in 3D on your phone.

The search giant has added the character to its growing repertoire of 3D search results ahead of the show’s season two finale on Friday.

Here’s how you can get him on your device.

How to view Baby Yoda in AR

To get Baby Yoda simply search for either “Baby Yoda,” or his other names “Grogu,” or “The Child”, on your phone.

If you are searching through Google a Knowledge Panel with a Wikipedia summary will appear telling you all about the character.

And at the bottom of the panel there will be an option to “View in 3D.”

Just tap that and click “View In Your Space” to conjure up the Child complete with blinking eyes and wiggling ears.

What can you do with Baby Yoda?

After summoning Baby Yoda through the magic of AR, you’ll be able to hear his signature gurgling noises.

You can also place him anywhere in your space and move him around using your phone.

The AR mode also allows you to take pictures and shoot videos of Grogu in various surroundings.

The project follows an announcement in November that Google had partnered with Lucasfilm on a free Android app to bring iconic and realistic moments to life using AR and 5G.

Google, Disney, and Lucasfilm called it a “next-generation augmented reality app optimized for 5G devices.”

What else can you do in AR?

Google has been rapidly developing its AR capabilities since it debuted last year and there’s far more to it than just TV characters.

It can be used as an extremely helpful learning tool since 3D animals can be viewed with the tool.

An ever expanding list of creatures is being created by the tech giant so simply searching your favourite animal will usually allow you to view it in AR.

Google can also show some other objects and it has partnered with certain websites and brands to show products, furniture, and even the human body in 3D.

On Thursday this week it was announced that the company is working in partnership with top brands like L’Oréal, Estée Lauder, MAC Cosmetics, Black Opal and Charlotte Tilbury to allow consumers to try on makeup.

When consumers search for a particular lipstick or eyeshadow product on Google — like “L’Oréal’s Infallible Paints Metallic Eyeshadow,” for example — they’ll come across the virtual try-on shopping experience at the top of their search results.
