Optimism (OP) token airdrop launched – how you can benefit3 min read
Optimism was designed to scale ETH. The scaling solution processes transactions outside of the ETH mainchain and then bundles them back onto it.
The project can thus significantly reduce ETH transaction costs. For example, a token swap via Uniswap on Optimism currently only costs $0.45. On the main ETH network, users must be proud for the same transaction at the time of writing $10.25 pay.
Optimism is among the most promising ETH scaling solutions in crypto space. On the Optimistic Rollup Chain is now almost 690 million US dollars. The scaling solution is therefore noisy, after Arbitrum and dYdx (DYDX), the third largest ETH Layer 2 network. In the last seven days alone, the capital (TVL) in the Optimism ecosystem has increased by 16.22 percent.
The reason for the sudden inflow of capital is likely to be the announcement of a comprehensive series of airdrops. Because optimism has Announced that the project wants to issue its own governance token under the ticker OP.
Looking at the size of the Optimism ecosystem, the value of the airdrop is likely to be in a league with the airdrops of dYdX and Uniswap will play. The goal of the airdrop is to reward early adopters and push the decentralization of the ETH scaling solution, according to the Optimism Team on Twitter.
How to find out if you get OP tokens
OP tokens are not yet tradable. Airdrop-eligible people can already look here how many OP tokens they will receive once Optimism releases the tokens for trading. In addition, the Optimism Team has published a list showing all the criteria for airdrop qualification.
As the graphic above shows, it was sufficient to qualify for the first airdrop if you had made transactions in the Optimism ecosystem or participated in DAO voting.
Optimism: How to qualify for future airdrops
The OP Airdrop will be the first in a series of airdrops to take place over the coming months. An exact date for further airdrops has not yet been announced. However, the ETH scaling solution calls on everyone who wants to qualify for future airdrops to actively participate in the success of the project.
Concretely there was known that users who either use Optimism or actively participate in the development of decentralized applications are eligible for future airdrops.
In addition, a table from the Optimism whitepaper shows that a total of 14 percent of the total OP token supply is to be used for future airdrops.
Airdrop enthusiasts should therefore start to actively participate in the ecosystem if they want to receive OP tokens in the future. Furthermore, it could be interesting for investors to keep an eye on other ETH scaling solutions.
Namely, should Optimism succeed in attracting more users to the network through the OP airdrop, it is likely that other ETH scaling solutions like Arbitrum will come under such pressure that they will also launch token airdrops.
Among the largest ETH scaling solutions that currently have no token are next to arbitrum among other things, zkSync and Aztec.
