Reddit co-founder opens Skyweaver Metaverse Beta for All Players

2 min read

After a successful launch in November 2021, the Skyweaver card game has just opened its beta to all players. The version of the game that has been in development since 2018 is available for PC, Mac and mobile.

The game is free-to-play, meaning players don’t need to make any investment to start playing.

Since the game economy went live at Polygon in November of last year, players have racked up more than 446,000 hours of gameplay across nearly 1.7 million games, spending more than $1.8 million on the Skyweaver marketplace.

“I was lucky to be an investor in Skyweaver from the start, but more importantly, I was a fan first. It was the first game that really opened my eyes to the vast potential of play-to-earn and NFT games. I wrote about play-to-earn 3 years ago and the trend is even more obvious now,” said Alexis Ohanian, a co-founder of Reddit who is an investor in Skyweaver.

The new version, however, does not bring major updates to the gameplay found in the closed beta. Instead, the main change is that now anyone can join the game and start earning NFTs without having to invest.

Skyweaver

Similar to many other collectible card games, in Skyweaver players summon creatures, cast spells and fight other players in online battle arenas.

Players can combine cards that offer different styles of play. In addition, they can combine attributes such as strength, agility, intellect, heart, and wisdom.

Based on their performance on the online leaderboards, players earn new cards.

One of the most sought after items in Skyweaver are the so-called gold cards. Player-owned cards are stored in their cryptocurrency wallet. It is then possible to trade them on NFT marketplaces.

Skyweaver currently has 500 cards. But new cards are constantly being added. Players can create up to 50 decks.
