Valentine's Day gift

Revolut, the famous British fintech company, today shared data on Valentine’s Day 2021 gifts. This is obviously a report compiled using Revolut’s app and debit card payment data as a reference.

In particular, this report is based on Italian customers, who are over half a million.

Valentine’s Day gifts according to Revolut

This Valentine’s Day was different, given the more limited opportunities due to Covid-19 and the various lockdowns around Europe, and so gifts changed compared to previous years.

Flowers were the main focus of this Valentine’s Day’s gift-giving, with spending at florists up 313% compared to the previous weekend.

There was also an increase in gifts bought at jewellers on Valentine’s Day, with this type of spending up 40% on the previous week.

In Italy, where in some regions restaurants are open at least for lunch, on February 14th many people decided to order takeaway food or dine out, registering a 31% increase in transactions compared to the previous Sunday. In addition, the average expenditure per user was 15% higher, so Italians decided to spend more on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.

It is obviously impossible to travel in Europe or around the world for now, but some Revolut customers decided to celebrate this weekend out anyway and in fact the figures show a 30% increase compared to the previous weekend.

Cosmetics and beauty products were also among the top gifts on this day, with an increase in transactions of only 15% compared to the previous week, even though these costs had been even higher the previous year, so this time this type of gift was the least preferred by Italians.
