Sandwich Shop Quiznos Accepting BTC

American fast-food restaurant chain Quiznos has announced that it will soon allow its customers to pay for meals with BTC thanks to a new partnership with digital asset marketplace Bakkt Holdings.

According to a press release published today, Quiznos will tap Bakkt’s digital wallet service, dubbed Bakkt App, to roll out the new crypto payment options in mid-August at several select locations across Denver, including the local airport.

“Partnering with an innovative platform such as Bakkt is appealing to us for a number of reasons, primarily because it allows us to accept BTC directly at the point of sale as part of a quick and seamless transaction,” noted Mark Lohmann, president of Quiznos’ parent company REGO Restaurant Group, in the announcement.

Per the release, customers who download Bakkt App, buy some BTC, and use it to purchase a meal at Quiznos will also receive $15 worth of BTC as a reward. However, the companies did not clarify whether existing app users will also be eligible for the rewards.

While the initial rollout will be limited to the Denver area, the companies could potentially expand the new crypto payments service across other parts of the U.S. as well.

“We will closely watch how this pilot performs, with the potential to expand the partnership to additional Quiznos locations across the country,” added Sheela Zemlin, chief revenue officer at Bakkt.

Bakkt Launches Mobile App for BTC Holding and Spending

Notably, the crypto firm launched its consumer app also not so long ago. On March 30, the company released Bakkt App for both iOS and Android, allowing users to store, buy, and sell BTC.

“The average consumer holds a wealth of digital assets—from gift cards to loyalty points to BTC—but lacks the tools to adequately track and utilize their value. We’re thrilled to bring the Bakkt App to the public as a step along our journey to expand digital asset access to all,” said Bakkt’s CEO Gavin Michael at the time.

Initially, Bakkt App supported 200 different brands, including Starbucks, Best Buy, Choice Hotels, Fiserv, GolfNow, and others.
