S&P Dow Jones Indices Launches Crypto Index Series

World’s leading index provider, S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) has just officially launched S&P Digital Market Indices — a series of indexes that measure the performance of digital assets that are listed on reputable cryptocurrency exchanges.

The indices will include the following:

  • S&P BTC Index: Measures BTC’s performance
  • S&P ETH Index: Measures ETH’s performance
  • S&P Cryptocurrency MegaCap Index: Measures BTC and ETH digital assets’ performance

The S&P Digital Market Indices will include additional coins and broader-based indices like large cap and broad market benchmarks, which is slated for late-2021.

The indices retrieve pricing data from crypto software and data provider Lukka, and use said data to calculate the eligibility universe and pricing of individual constituents.

“Traditional financial markets and digital assets are no longer mutually exclusive markets,” said Peter Roffman, Global Head of Innovation and Strategy of S&P DJI. “As cryptocurrency becomes more mainstream, investors now have access to reliable and transparent benchmarks backed by institutional quality pricing data. We look forward to further expanding our new family of Digital Market Indices and bringing much needed transparency to this exciting market.”

The market for cryptocurrency assets is growing hotter than ever, which leads to more investors demanding for benchmarking and index-based solutions that are centered around crypto and blockchain assets.
