2 min read

Spotify has been hit with technical issues, with users reporting songs skipping or not playing.

The streaming service confirmed it was looking into reports of various issues with playback on Friday morning.

The tracking website Downdetector also recorded nearly 8,000 reports at around 10am of issues with the service.

Spotify tweeted: “Something’s not quite right, and we’re looking into it. Thanks for your reports!”

The Spotify Status account added several minutes later: “We’ve made a few tweaks backstage, so everything should be back to normal. Need more help? Let @SpotifyCares know!”

Skipping songs

But Twitter users were quick to point out they were still experiencing problems. “Spotify keeps skipping through songs, won’t play for more than a couple seconds before switching to another song,” one replied.

Another wrote: “Still having issues. Skipping through song after just seconds. Appears to play on Google nest, but no sound comes out.”

A third added: “I can’t play music from any of my devices (via the app or Sonos). Spotify claims that I’m offline, which isn’t true.”

The technical issues appear to be concentrated on the Spotify iOS app for iPhones and iPads, which was unable to play songs at all, while the Android version skipped some songs every 10 seconds.

Twitter users react

The service’s web player was also experiencing bugs – skipping songs after only one second of playing.

Of the reports made to the Downdetector website, 75 per cent related to music streaming but around 17 per cent concerned log-in issues and seven per cent flagged problems with the Spotify website.

Other Twitter users made light of the issue. One tweeted a meme from Family Guy, adding: “Spotify crashed now i have to listen to my demons.”

Another tweeted a Mr Bean GIF, captioning it: Spotify is down. me right now”.

A Spotify spokeswoman told i: “I can now confirm that the issue has now been identified and resolved.”
