What can the new Uniswap wallet do?

3 min read

Uniswap begins to expand. After the DEX has expanded its offer to various other blockchains, the in-house mobile wallet for iOS now follows. According to Uniswap, as soon as Apple gives the application the green light, it should be ready to go without further ado.CRPT was able to get hold of a test version before the launch and looks at the most important features.

Classic Uniswap

First plus point: the look of the wallet. Like the DEX in the browser, the Uniswap wallet is simply designed, clear and particularly intuitive. In contrast to other mobile wallets, the Uni-Wallet is not only functional, but even fun. The setup is also done in a few seconds. This is also because the secret recovery phrase does not have to be written down, but the app has set an iCloud backup by default.

An existing wallet can also be imported quickly in this way, provided a backup file is already stored on the iCloud. It should be said at this point that storage via iCloud is practical, but somewhat riskier than storing the recovery phrase yourself. So if you want to be on the safe side, you should opt for the manual setup of the recovery phrase consisting of 12 words.

Next, the user can decide to activate Face ID. This allows the wallet to be unlocked without requiring a password. However, individual transactions can also be authorized with it. Both settings are optional. In addition, push notifications can be switched on for any wallet activity. After choosing these preferences, the short setup is already over and the wallet is ready to go.

More than just sending and receiving

Of course, the wallet of the most popular DEX in crypto space has a built-in swap feature. This allows two tokens to be exchanged in no time at all. In addition, the network can be changed with just one tap. In addition to the Ethereum Mainnet, the wallet also supports the Layer 2 chains Arbitrum, Optimism and Polygon.

This worked smoothly in our short test. However, some users reported on Discord that transaction fees are higher on the app than on the web version. An error in the display is suspected. Due to the constant fluctuations in fees on Ethereum, this is also difficult to check. Unfortunately, the developers have not yet provided any precise information on this.

The Web3 in hand

Apart from that, the Web3 can be explored directly from the app. Just a tap away is an overview of the current top tokens, which can be sorted by trading volume, Uniswap TVL or market capitalization, among other things. The app also contains charts for almost all tokens that are currently tradable on the DEX. An enormously useful feature as these are often not available on platforms like Trading View or centralized exchanges.

In addition, wallets that you want to follow can also be favored in this area. We were able to take a look at the wallet of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin without having to use a block explorer. We think it’s an exciting feature that, for example, it could be combined with push notifications in order to be able to track the activities of these wallets.

Uniswap wallet: the conclusion

The new wallet convinces with the well-known playful Uniswap look and the intuitive handling. The current features are also impressive and enable a simple and uncomplicated entry into Web3. With some extensions, the app would certainly be even more perfect. In addition to token trends and charts, NFT trends and trading volumes could also appear in the Web3 area.

For our taste, there is also no integrated bridging function that would certainly round off the layer 2 area. However, the developers are currently open to any feedback, which is why the corresponding improvements should only be a matter of time. If they are implemented, there would be few mobile wallets on the market that could compete with the Uni-Wallet.
