Why does my iPhone keep asking for my email password? How to set up your email to stop the bug messages

2 min read

iPhone users worldwide have complained that their devices frequently ask for their email password.

Users say that notifications will often pop up on iPhone and iPad even when performing an unrelated task.

According to Apple technology website Macworld, the notification is “a bug that often comes up after major software updates” and there are several ways to deal with it.

Here’s what you can do about the notifications.

Update your iOS

The bug is reportedly often linked to software updates, so it can likely be fixed by simply updating your iPhone or iPad’s version of iOS.

To do this, go to Settings, General, Software Update and if you can see your device is not running the latest software, click Download and Install.

You will need to be connected to WiFi and the update will often require a restart, but it may stop the email notifications from coming up.

Restart FaceTime and iMessage

Both FaceTime and iMessage require your Apple ID to sign in, which involves entering your email and associated password.

It could fix the problem if you sign out of both apps and sign back in again.

This is as simple as going to Settings then Messages and tapping the slider to turn Messages from on to off.

Repeat the process with FaceTime and monitor whether you are asked to sign in again.

Update apps

Like FaceTime and iMessage, apps can sometimes require an email sign in which may prompt unwarranted notifications.

If an app needs updating it can often need your iCloud login to do so.

To update your apps, open App Store and tap the icon at the top right. You will then be able to see which apps need updating.

Clicking Update All should mean none of them require your password.

Sign out of iCloud

Signing out of iCloud and logging back in can sometimes solve the problem.

To do this, open Settings and tap on your name at the top of the screen which will take you to your iCloud settings.

Scroll down the page and tap Sign Out then enter your Apple ID password to turn off Find My iPhone.

Then restart your iPhone and sign back into iCloud – this may fix the problem.
