Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Bitwise, predicts that the value of Bitcoin (BTC) could rise to 500,000 USD if the US government decides to hold BTC as a strategic reserve. In a recent interview, Hougan stated that this scenario is becoming more realistic as former President Donald Trump openly expressed interest in such a measure.
According to Hougan, the introduction of a national Bitcoin reserve would not only significantly increase demand in the United States, but would also have a massive impact worldwide. Countries such as Russia, Brazil and the European Union are considering similar plans and could follow suit if the US takes the first step. Canada is already leading the way here: Vancouver recently passed a law allowing Bitcoin to be held as a reserve asset.
Hougan explains that a U.S. strategic reserve could trigger a global trend, increasing demand for BTC and driving the price even higher. Without such a reserve, he estimates that BTC could reach 200,000 USD by 2025, a 92% increase from current levels. However, with the implementation of a strategic reserve, he sees an explosive move toward 300,000-500,000 USD, an increase of over 380%.
Jack Mallers: Bitcoin at 1 million USD?
Jack Mallers, CEO of Strike, shares an even more optimistic view. In an interview with Anthony Scaramucci, he predicts that BTC could rise to 1 million USD in specific scenarios – a massive increase of almost 900% compared to the current price of around 100,000 USD.
Mallers explains that a large-scale BTC purchase by the US, for example four million BTC, would trigger a rapid price increase. Without such a reserve, however, a price of 250,000 USD remains more realistic. He also points to the growing global debt burden and the weakening of fiat currencies. Mallers is convinced that scarce assets like Bitcoin will increase in value:
“Bitcoin is unique in its scarcity and immutability. It is the ultimate safe haven asset.”
Conclusion
The possible introduction of BTC as a strategic reserve by the USA could have a huge impact on the price. While Hougan of Bitwise predicts a value of up to 500,000 USD, Mallers even sees potential for 1 million USD. Despite these optimistic forecasts, Bitcoin’s success remains highly dependent on geopolitical developments and global economic trends.
