Blockchain is making major changes in finance, supply chains and the arts – and is now set to change the way children can play and learn, and lay the groundwork for the development of decentralized theme parks.
Ocean Park and a new attraction
Today, Hong Kong Ocean Park will open its latest attraction, the Explorer R Experience Hub. It is an interactive experience for children, which allows them to create their own game avatars and animal companions to learn something about the natural environment and be creative.
The experiential center is based on STEAM-based teaching, an approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, art and math as access points for guiding students’ sense of exploration, dialogue, hands-on learning and critical thinking.
The new attraction uses groundbreaking technologies such as image recognition and gesture mapping, and tracks visitors’ locations in the virtual world with an internal pointing clock synchronized with the game. The center was designed by Immersive One, a joint venture consisting of a leading multidisciplinary team specializing in games, creative media technologies and blockchain technology. Although the Experience Hub is impressive, it is just a prelude to a much more ambitious vision.
NFT as a basis
Did you collect coupons at the fair as small children and then exchange them for a toy? In decentralized amusement parks, children will be able to acquire new forms of digital currency and create unique, non-fungible tokens in the form of their avatars instead of coupons.
Unlike pilgrim toys, NFTs will forever exist in a blockchain, owned by players who can take them home and further improve them through various online activities.
The digital currency gained by completing game levels will be able to be used in something that is essentially a decentralized financial ecosystem for children. Through gaming, they will earn digital currency for leveling their avatars, buying food and rewards at physical parks, and even using it to enter an amusement park.
Feeling of ownership
“In the future, children will be invited to bring their favorite toys to the amusement park, which will be transformed into one of Dreambia using 3D scanning technology and artificial intelligence, which will be NFT and they will be able to explore Dreamvers together.”
-said Denny Won, Immersive One CEO.
As a blockchain supporting a decentralized theme park will be a public chain, users may eventually even be able to trade their NFT avatars on the open market, which will further power the ecosystem, as the NFT’s profit potential is likely to increase and learning.
Conclusion
It’s fascinating and scary at the same time. Anyone who has read or seen Ready Player One will probably feel that Oasis is a little closer to us again.
