- Tech leakers are showcasing what is supposed to be the iPhone 13 screen, and the notch is smaller.
- On another leak, the camera layout, cutout, and bump design for the upcoming range have changed.
- The validity of the leaks cannot be confirmed, so these may be just prototypes for accessories.
Several tech leakers have posted photographs on Twitter showing the notch of the upcoming iPhone 13, and it looks noticeably smaller than what we have right now. The iPhone notch has remained largely unchanged since its introduction with iPhone X, released in 2017.
The notch has to accommodate the camera and a range of sensors for the Face ID system, so managing to shrink it by any amount proved to be a challenge for Apple’s engineers. However, if these leaks are true, we may see that happening on iPhone 13.
Of course, even if smaller, the notch is still there, and those who hate it will still hate it, even if a tad bit less than before. The definitive solution is to eliminate the notch and place all subsystems under a translucent display, but Apple is not known for ushering new tech on iPhone. Also, the first implementations of this technology that we saw last year by ZTE weren’t nearly where they should be in order to see it adopted by a device like the iPhone.
Rumors, though, suggest that Samsung, OPPO, and Xiaomi will present their own iterations of the under-display camera in a few months, which will be comparative in quality with regular front-facing cameras. Also, ZTE is working on a vastly improved version of what they did with the Axon 20 5G, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for the tech.
On other “leak” news, the iPhone 13 mini has had a render leak which shows a change in the camera layout and bump design. Also, the cutouts are larger, so we could see some improvements in the low-light performance. Apart from that, the overall design is pretty much identical to the iPhone 12 mini, featuring the same dimensions and same shell.
The iPhone 13 is still far from being launched, but the device’s design and features should have already crystallized as part suppliers need to get things moving. We have no way to know if the leaked renders and images are truthful or not, and they may as well be referring to accessories, or they could be prototypes, or whatever really.
