Microsoft’s Incident Response Team has issued a critical warning about a new computer virus designed to loot crypto wallets. According to reports, this malware is a Trojan, meaning it disguises itself as a legitimate program while secretly deploying a virus in the background.
This Virus Steals Data Straight from Google Chrome
Cybercriminals behind this malware are using StilachiRAT, a sophisticated tool that extracts passwords and sensitive information directly from the Google Chrome browser.
But that’s not all—this virus is also capable of:
- Extracting cryptocurrency wallet information
- Hijacking clipboard data (meaning if you copy-paste your wallet address, it could replace it with a hacker’s address)
Once installed, this malware scans for specific crypto wallets, including:
- Coinbase Wallet
- Trust Wallet
- MetaMask
- OKX Wallet
In other words, this isn’t just any virus—it’s a dangerous piece of malware that could cause massive losses for unsuspecting crypto users.
Who’s Behind the Attack? Microsoft Doesn’t Know—Yet
At this point, Microsoft hasn’t identified the culprits behind this malware. However, they are actively investigating and hope to provide more clarity soon.
How Big is the Threat Right Now?
The good news—this virus isn’t widespread yet and does not pose an immediate large-scale threat.
The bad news—malware threats evolve quickly, and Microsoft believes raising awareness now is crucial before the virus spreads further.
How to Protect Yourself
Microsoft strongly recommends:
🛡️ Installing a trusted antivirus program
🛡️ Using cloud-based anti-phishing and anti-malware protection
🛡️ Avoiding downloading unknown software or clicking suspicious links
Crypto Hacks Are Already Costing Billions
Just in February alone, crypto hacks resulted in a staggering $1.53 billion in losses. However, $1.4 billion of this came from the massive Bybit hack, where hackers stole an enormous amount of Ethereum.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, crypto holders need to stay vigilant. Don’t let your hard-earned assets fall into the hands of hackers—stay one step ahead and secure your funds today!
