Kamala Harris speaks out on crypto: Will this put her in the running against Donald Trump?

AI and crypto: Harris speaks out on digital assets for the first time

We recently reported that Kamala Harris has not yet made any public statements on the subject of cryptocurrencies. Trump, on the other hand, has long positioned himself as a crypto supporter – even as a “crypto president”. This seems to have put pressure on his rival, as Harris’ reticence is now a thing of the past. For the first time, she is speaking about digital assets such as artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies during her presidential campaign.

Most recently on Wall Street: At a fundraiser, US presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed crypto investors for the first time and promised strong support in the AI and crypto sectors. However, consumer protection is also important to her. A report from Bloomberg shows that Harris wants to create a “safe business environment with consistent and transparent rules”. This should contribute to the competitiveness of the United States.

Cautious optimism: Investors want more clarity through concrete plans

Faryar Shirzad, head of policy at US trading platform Coinbase, believes that Harris is sending an important message with her willingness to engage with the crypto market. Although her statements are not as succinct as those of her rival Trump, they still offer room for cautious optimism. According to Jake Chervinsky of Variant, however, one should not forget that the keyword consumer protection could also indicate an obstruction of the crypto industry.

At the moment, everything looks like a close neck and neck race. According to national US polls, Kamala Harris is 2.9 percentage points ahead of former US President Donald Trump. In four of six so-called swing states (= states in which both parties have a good chance of winning), “Harris is ahead of Donald Trump with a 52 percent chance of winning,” according to the company Polymarket. US citizens don’t have to wait long – the US presidential election will take place on November 5, in six weeks. It remains to be seen whether Harris will comment on the topic of crypto again by then.
