Animoca Brands has announced that it will compensate all financial damage caused to players due to the Phantom Galaxy server hack and fake NFT scam that took place on November 19th.
So, according to the company, which is one of the biggest among the corporations linked to the metaverse, players affected by the hack can now claim their compensation through the official Phantom Galaxies website.
Animoca will pay all users affected by recent hack
Therefore, on November 19, 2021, hackers gained access to Phantom Galaxies’ official Discord server and although the admin account was protected by two-factor authentication, a malware bot compromised this two-factor authentication to gain control from the server.
So, with control of the channel, hackers started posting fake ads and claimed that the game would launch a surprise NFT coinage event.
They also directed users to a fraudulent Phantom Galaxies website where the minting event was supposed to take place. The site asked users to pay 0.1 ETH as a “minting fee”.
Thus, this money was being transferred to the hacker’s account without the user’s knowledge, and they received nothing for this transaction. In just three hours, the hackers managed to steal a total of 265 ETH.
Thus, Animoca Brands announced that players have two options to claim their stolen funds.
The first is through receiving 3 NFTs from the game and in this procedure players do not need to perform any KYC procedures, instead they just need to prove that they were affected by the hack.
The other is a full refund in ETH. For this, affected players will need to complete a KYC process.
So Phantom Galaxies is an open world, space simulator, mech shooter, RPG. Players take on the role of Space Rangers who pilot Mechanized Starfighters. These vehicles function as typical hunting spaceships and also transform into Mech robots.
Starfighters are unlocked as players progress through the story. Starfighters take durability damage and require repairs from time to time.
As such, Phantom Galaxies also includes level-up Avatar NFTs, Arena PvP, property ownership (from space stations to planetary bases and entire planets!) and guild support.
The initial release of Phantom Galaxies is on the Polygon blokchain.
