As a result, in August 2021, NFT digital copies of masterpieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Madonna Litta, Judith Giorgione, Vincent van Gogh’s Lilac Bush, Wassily Kandinsky’s VI and Claude Monet’s The Garden of Montgeron will debut on the market. .
In the autumn, the NFT will present itself during a special NFT art exhibition organized by the museum.
Each digital copy will be personally signed by Mikhail Piotrovsky, the museum’s director, who will ensure its authenticity and limited edition. Each tokenized work will have two identical copies of the NFT, one of which will remain in the Hermitage and the other will be auctioned at the Binance NFT marketplace.
The aim of this initiative is to provide a new level of accessibility to the museum’s collections and to emphasize its democratic nature, as well as the importance of digitization as a new innovation in the world of art collection.
Due to the skepticism of Russian lawmakers towards cryptocurrencies, the museum’s legal department had to develop a precise model for the creation and sale of the NFT together with LFCS legal advice to fully comply with strict Russian legislation on the subject and set an important precedent to allow further similar initiatives in the country.
Piotrovsky said:
“New technologies, especially blockchain, have opened a new chapter in the development of the art market. This is an important stage in the development of the relationship between man and money, the person and the thing. NFT – in this way it creates democracy, makes luxury more accessible, but at the same time exceptional and exclusive. We will expand other opportunities, especially digital, which will present the collections and the palace. We will try new experiments based on new technologies. “
The head of Binance NFT, Helen Hai, added:
“The use of blockchain and NFT technology by one of the largest museums in the world is another step towards global digitization. We really appreciate the opportunity to work together, because together we make history. The experience that Hermitage shows to the entire art market is invaluable, opening up many new opportunities for development. I am sure that we will soon see even more projects that will positively influence the development of a unique combination of blockchain and art “.
