The year 2022 is in the spirit of corrections which is not receding yet and may take months to continue. Thus, most customers are definitely interested in the possibility of buying at a lower price into a long-term portfolio. The HODL portfolio may also include not only BTC but also the most capitalized altcoins. Which of the TOP 10 recorded the smallest loss in 2022?

For comparison, we first look at the loss of BTC from January 1, 2022. As we can see in the chart below, BTC fell by about 36%. How are the remaining altcoins from the TOP 10 ranking according to the market capitalization from the Coinmarketcap website?

The following figure shows the TOP 10 cryptocurrency ranking by market capitalization, which is current as of May 20, 2022. From this ranking, of course, omit USDT, USDC, BUSD and WBTC.

Did TOP altcoins make bigger losses than BTC?

The following overview provides percentage expression of losses individual altcoins in 2022 according to market capitalization:

  • ETH – loss 44%
  • Binance coin – loss 40%
  • XRP – loss 48%
  • Cardano – loss 60%
  • Solana – loss 69%
  • Dogecoin – 50% loss
  • Polkadot – loss 62%
  • Avalanche – loss 72%
  • TRON – loss 3%

As we can see, unequivocal winner is TRON with almost no loss and is currently trading at the same price levels as on 1 January 2022. However, this is one of the exceptions, as it is clear that the altcoins suffered much more in 2022 than the bitcoins. This fact is also confirmed by the fact that the dominance of the main cryptocurrency increased from January 1, 2022 by up to 13.50%.
