After three successful editions, BTC Association has announced that the fourth BTC SV Hackathon is to commence on June 14. The winners will walk away with $100,000, paid in BSV and shared among the three top projects.

The BTC SV Hackathon has been one of the most iconic and important events in the BTC space. It allows developers from around the globe to showcase their skills and ideas in building the next big application on BTC.

The third BTC SV Hackathon, which took place in October 2020, attracted over 400 participants from 75 countries worldwide. Unlike in the two previous editions when the competition was limited to 48 hours, it ran for eight weeks. This allowed the developers ample time to work on their projects. It resulted in some of the most visionary ideas in the BTC space, with the judges—and the audience—having a hard time selecting who deserved to be crowned the winner.

RepZip emerged victorious, walking away with $50,000 in BSV. RepZip, developed by Will Devine, is an identity solution which assigns a public key to its users as a unique identifier. STOTASK and Kyrt took home $30,000 and $20,000 in BSV, respectively.

The fourth BTC SV Hackathon will also feature an extended coding period, allowing developers to refine their ideas and applications. The coding period will run from June 14 to July 26. At the end of this period, a panel of experts will select the top three projects. A representative from each project will then present his/her project live to a panel of judges that will consist of the leading figures in BTC.

BTC Association Founding President Jimmy Nguyen sees the Hackathon as one of the most effective ways to incentivize developers to learn how to build on BTC.

He commented, “Developer education is a key component of the work we do at BTC Association and one of the most exciting ways to incentivise developers to learn how to build applications on BSV is through competition such as our BTC SV Hackathons. With $100,000 up for grabs, the stakes are high, the standard of entry continues to get higher with each Hackathon, and the innovation displayed by competitors never fails to impress.”

nChain, the leading enterprise blockchain research and development firm, has partnered with BTC Association to organize the Hackathon. nChain CTO Steve Shadders is just as eager to see what projects will emerge from the latest Hackathon.

Shadders commented, “There is no better entry point for developers into the BTC SV ecosystem than the BTC SV Hackathons. The standard of entry has been higher and higher with every iteration of the competition, so I’m looking forward to seeing the entries from all around the world in what I’m sure will be our most competitive BTC SV Hackathon to date.”
