The Model L505 is a recent entry in the Toshiba Satellites series. The Toshiba Satellites are a series of laptop that come in a variety of models with different features, depending on the consumer’s needs and budget. One of the more affordable general purpose models is the L505, specifically the L505-GS5037.
The L505-GS5037 comes with a 2.13 GHz Intel i3-330M Dual Core processor with 3 MB L3 cache, complete with Intel’s Hyper-Threading Technology, and comes pre-installed with the Windows 7 Premium Operating System, 64 bit edition. The L505 weighs in at about six pounds, which is a nice tradeoff between power and portability.
The L505 also comes with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500 GB SATA hard drive. The L505-GS5037 has an Intel Media Accelerator HD Graphics card with 32MB-1696MB of dynamically allocated shared graphics memory, which should be sufficient for most graphics needs, with the possible exception of some computer games. Casual gamers should find the L505 sufficient for their needs, but users looking for a laptop primarily for gaming might need a computer with a more robust graphics card.
The L505-GS5037 comes with a 15.6-inch Widescreen TruBrite LCD computer monitor with backlight display and 720p native resolution (1366 x 768 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio.) All Toshiba Satellites in the L505 model come with a touch pad, long-life battery, numeric keypad, a CD/DVD drive, expansion slots, and USB ports. The DVD drive is an 8x Super Multi DVD drive with double layer support and Label Flash printing.
The L505 also features stereo speakers, and a built in 1.3 megapixel digital webcam and microphone for business video web conferencing or day to day socializing. The webcam comes with Face Recognition software, enabling log in without passwords, just show your face to the webcam!
There are three USB ports, with one USB/eSata combo port, on the L505 to enable attaching multiple external devices easy. The Satellite L505 also comes with an internal wireless Network Interface Card, or NIC, that is capable of supporting wireless 802.11 b/g/n standards. Also included is the Eco-Utility feature to reduce power consumption.
Toshiba Satellites get high ratings from reviewers and consumers, and the L505 is no exception. The L505 in particular gets high marks for ergonomics as well as performance and design. Overall, the L505 is a good choice for an all purpose laptop for the budget conscious consumer.
