With the switch from CBS All Access to Paramount Plus looming in, the big question is whether Paramount Plus is worth it. Let’s see what we know so far and how it fares towards whether the service is worth it.
Content – Worth It
Up until now, CBS All Access has been a fairly niche service, delivering CBS shows and content, some original shows, a live stream, and a few more things. Frankly, while CBS content is pretty awesome, it’s doesn’t necessarily justify subscribing to service just for that. Even when you factor in the cool Star Trek shows exclusive to the service, it may not push someone to subscribe.
Now, however, Paramount Plus will have tons more content. Not only will they be adding shows from BET, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, and Smithsonian Channel, but they’re also bringing hundreds of titles from Paramount Pictures. Considering that the studio is responsible for multiple franchises in recent years, including Mission: Impossible or Transformers, we can expect a ton of blockbusters. That in itself instantly makes Paramount Plus a service that deserves our attention.
Price – Worth It
As of now, there’s no indication that Paramount Plus will have its price pushed upwards anytime soon. Of course, that may be because CBS All Access is a bit overpriced for only providing content from one network. Nonetheless, for now, the prices will remain $5.99 per month for the ad-supported version (or $59.99/year) and $9.99 per month for the ad-free version (or $99.99/year).
There’s even a really cool deal available right now that encourages people to subscribe for a whole year for CBS All Access by March 3rd, and they’ll get a 50% OFF deal for the service as they transition into Paramount Plus. So, right now, you could get a full year of Paramount Plus for as little as $30. That’s a pretty cool deal!
Original Content – Worth It
CBS All Access had a bunch of original shows, and they’ll now continue under Paramount Plus. Furthermore, all the shows that CBS All Access has announced in previous months are still going to happen once the name of the service changes.
Some new content has also been announced, such as these:
- The Offer – a behind-the-scenes look at how The Godfather was produced
- Behind the Music – gets a reboot
- The Real Criminal Minds – the true-crimes version of the famous CBS drama that had its finale in 2020
- The Game – the comedy series gets brought back to life
- Lioness – a drama series from Taylor Sheridan, the maker of Yellowstone
Bottom Line – Paramount Plus Is Worth It
Even though CBS All Access was something only big CBS fans would go for, Paramount Plus is bound to attract a lot more subscribers. There’s going to be a lot more content, the price is more than decent for what they’re bringing to the table (so far), and there’s going to be more variety even in terms of the original shows we’re getting.
That being said, Paramount Plus is definitely a service that deserves a try. If you’re going to take advantage of the 50% off deal they have, you’ll get even more out of it.
