The Premier League debuts on the digital pitch. How Sorare, the Paris crypto start-up integrates the digital trading cards of all footballers in the English top league into its blockchain game. The partnership will initially run for four years. Users of the platform can use it to trade NFTs by Erling Haaland, Harry Kane or Mohamed Salah and compete against each other. In addition, Sorare introduces more gameplay features.
The cooperation has been “dreamed of” since the company was founded, explains Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia in the press release. The partnership is a “milestone,” says the 36-year-old. The Premier League is the most extensive and financially strong professional football league in the world. Before the Corona pandemic recorded the English House of Lords 1.9 million viewers per game in Great Britain alone. The partnership with Sorare aims to further strengthen the digital bond with fans, says Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters.
In addition to the English top division, Sorare holds license rights to the Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish La Liga and 15 teams in the French Ligue 1.
What is Sorare?
Basically, Sorare is the digital equivalent of the Panini scrapbook. The gameplay is based on scarcity. Each NFT football card comes in four different flavors (“Limited”, “Rare”, “Super Rare”, “Unique”). The rarer a card, the higher its price. Also, the actual performance of the players further influences the market value.
In addition to collecting and trading, managers can pit their teams against each other. Points are awarded for every win. The higher the score at the end of a tournament, the better prizes are up for grabs.
