A Twitter user asked BrendanEich when Brave would launch a YouTube killer considering that the whole ecosystem is expecting a “bat tipping on YouTube app”.

In a response tweet, BrendanEich said the killer would be launched soon. He emphasized that he is beginning with the design, and at the moment, the “non-frontend pieces” have already been built.

I’m starting with design but we have non-frontend pieces already built.

He said the innovation is not a YouTube service replacement, but the YouTube app would be killed in-browser. However, the browser has the capability to mush up and disintermediate contents.

The co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox said the YouTube killer can make use of YouTube for ordinary storage and high Qos routing.

The BAT ecosystem has been expecting a big idea that will enable tipping on the YouTube app. As some might be expecting that Brave create a new version of YouTube “dubbed Google 4.0”, BrendanEich says he’s not interested in such but looking forward to launching the killer app in-browse.

This month, Brave announced that the BAT ecosystem has seen huge expansion and that Brave has now gone beyond 15 million monthly active users and 5 million daily active users. The huge usage increment shows that Brave no has about15.4 million users, a whopping 50% surge since Brave 1.0 was launched in November 2019.

As well, Brave Ads generated 1,530 campaigns since it launched in 2019. In October 2019, it had only generated 400 campaigns.

Since February 2020 when the sponsored images option was launched, according to a report by Brave, it delivered around 25 campaigns.

Brave now sees campaigns from the likes of PayPal/Honey, Chipotle, Newegg, and Verizon. Joining the likes of Evernote, Quickbooks, Grubhub, Lenovo, Logitech, KIND snacks, CBS, Intel, Harry’s Razors, and Amazon who are already making use of the medium. At the moment, Brave Ads campaigns are being supported in 183 countries.

Brave ads have seen a wide increment of over 930%. Now, there are around 700,000 Brave Verified content creators on platforms like GitHub, Vimeo, Web Sites, Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube.

As users battle privacy issues on other browsers, more people are making use of Brave Browsers. Over privacy issues, Google is battling a $5 billion class-action lawsuit over Chrome privacy. The lawsuit insinuates that Chrome gathers browser data of its users without their consent despite making using Incognito mode.

In a separate development, Brave has collaborated with Japanese e-sports team Rush Gaming and Korean pop group BTC to release a specialized browser exclusively designed for users in Japan.

As reported on Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, when users of the browser watch ads that support Rush Gaming’s e-sports team, they earn points in return.
