Drive a Fiat 500 and earn KiriCoin

Fiat 500 KiriCoin

Drivers of the new electric Fiat 500 will be able to earn KiriCoin redeemable for vouchers.

In fact, Fiat has launched a rewards programme for its new electric cars to reward drivers who drive in an environmentally friendly way.

Thanks to this programme, it will be possible to earn KiriCoin tokens that can be used, for example, to make purchases on the kirimarket.com marketplace.

However, this isn’t a real cryptocurrency, nor is it a crypto token, since it doesn’t even have its own blockchain and doesn’t rely on any known blockchain.

Kiri is the Japanese name for Paulownia, a tree that absorbs 10 times more carbon dioxide than any other plant, and refers to the project’s ecological footprint.

Specifically, drivers receive one KiriCoin, worth two euro cents, for every kilometre they drive. The KiriCoin are deposited in the user’s virtual wallet, accessible via a Fiat smartphone app.

In addition, drivers with the best eco scores will receive extra rewards as their driving data is uploaded to the cloud, revealing their energy consumption in real time.

The new Fiat 500 electric is now on sale in the UK, and the rewards programme will begin after the first cars are delivered to the UK in late spring.

Other brands that have joined the initiative include Amazon, Apple Music, Netflix and Spotify.

Fiat 500 rewards sustainable driving with KiriCoin

Fiat’s parent company, Stellantis, has partnered with UK start-up Kiri Technologies to create this rewards programme.

Stellantis senior vice president Cristiano Fiori said:

“Kiri is the perfect name for a project devoted to rewarding sustainable behaviour. You can get paid for driving yourself wisely in your new 500.

We will award virtual coins, called KiriCoins, the digital currency in our system. You might think that something similar should already exist. But we are actually the first automotive brand to do it”.

Fiat’s head of electric mobility, Gabriele Catacchio, added:

“What we have here is an eco-loyalty program that will make people feel good about having an eco-driving style.

That’s pretty unique in the automotive world and it’s also new in the wider world because most programs reward you for your purchases, not for being responsible. That approach can potentially embrace plenty of other environmentally conscious actions that in the future will also generate KiriCoins”.
