General Bytes (GB) was one of the first crypto ATM manufacturers to include BCH in its software. The vendor recently announced that it has implemented two-way support in its software for SLP tokens. The Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP) has become the predominant application in the BCH ecosystem. Thousands of tokens have been created so far.
General Bytes about the implementation of SLP tokens
SLP simply associates metadata that describes and provides information about token properties with OP_Return transactions when sending and receiving tokens. Each time someone uses an SLP token, BCH transactions are used and the movement is recorded in the BCH chain.
General Bytes’ development team felt that the ATMs it made should have more features by adding support for SLP-based tokens. Marketing manager Martijn Wismeijer said:
“Ensuring that SLP tokens work in ATMs has been at the top of our priority list”
GB ATMs offer two-way support, but not for ATMs that support ERC20 tokens. Due to the susceptibility of Etherea tokens to errors compared to other cryptocurrencies. General Bytes currently only supports “buy” (cash to crypto) for ERC20 tokens.
Wismeijer said that due to the complexity of ERC20, SLP tokens are much easier to implement into an existing crypto ecosystem. The wallet problem is solved because there are several good bitcoin wallets with support for SLP tokens.
