Jaguars’ No. 1 Pick, Trevor Lawrence, Teams With Adidas to Release NFT

Just a week after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Trevor Lawrence is gearing up for another team-up. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ new rookie quarterback has announced a collaboration between himself and Adidas to raise money for local charities.

The collaboration with Adidas is just the first initiative of a multi-year deal with Lawrence and Adidas’ first brand partnership of this kind with a pro athlete.

The sale will be for a set of commemorative non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring the rookie sensation. The NFTs will be released as 3D animated trading cards, similar to the design of NBA Top Shot moments. The winner will receive a physical copy of the card, along with some apparel.

The main auction will also include a physical copy of the NFT and an exclusive pair of Lawrence’s player-edition spikes to display. The cleats will be signed by Lawrence.

For those who lose out on the auction, official copies of the Lawrence NFT will be available for purchase at $100.

A charitable auction

The sale will be hosted at Bitski where users can purchase NFTs. The company has been hailed as the Shopify of NFTs and offers several exclusive sales and auctions. After entering payment info, a wallet is created and the NFT is minted into said wallet at the time of purchase.

This lifts the need for users or brands to have a deep understanding of the blockchain process and simply enjoy shopping for digital goods. For the 1 of 1 auction, however, users can bid with a credit card which will be held. The winner can choose after to pay the winning bid out in ETH (ETH) if desired.

Bidding for the 1 of 1 digital card starts at $1,000. As of this writing, bids have already eclipsed $10,000.

Despite not having played a single snap in the NFL yet, this is not Lawrence’s first foray into the NFT space. Reading up to the draft, Lawrence launched a six-piece NFT collection in collaboration with Topps trading card company. The auction included five open edition cards and a 1/1 of a signed superfractor and artist proof card. They sold for around $225,000 through the mintable app.
