Luxury Nashville Hotel Takes Bookings in BTC—or Dogecoin

A boutique hotel in Nashville is now accepting BTC and other cryptocurrencies for room and event bookings, according to BizJournals.

Located in downtown Nashville, the Bobby Hotel boasts city-themed rooms, a rooftop lounge, and its own 1963 Lincoln Continental that you can take out for a ride around town.

Guests can now pay for a booking using BTC payment service BitPay. The service manages the cryptocurrency payment on behalf of the hotel, meaning that guests can pay with BTC, ETH and a range of stablecoins (cryptocurrencies pegged to fiat money, such as the US dollar). You can even pay with Dogecoin, which BitPay added last month.

Who’s paying with BTC?

“As BTC and cryptocurrency become more widely accepted forms of payment globally, it was important to find a way to provide our guests with the access and convenience of utilizing these currencies when visiting Bobby,” said Jeff Crabiel, area general manager of Bobby Hotel, in a release.

The hospitality sector has already begun to embrace cryptocurrency, with booking platforms like CheapAir and Travala taking payment in BTC and other cryptocurrencies; the latter has also launched partnerships with mainstream travel sites including Booking.com and Expedia.

Private Jets Are Being Sold For BTC to Fire Up Sales

Outside of hospitality, organizations including the Dallas Mavericks, Oakland A’s and Tesla have started accepting cryptocurrency. But while companies may be accepting BTC, consumers are proving reluctant to part with their cryptocurrency holdings. The Oakland A’s, which said they’ll accept one BTC for a full-season suite, have yet to be taken up on their offer.

It’s something that begs the oft-repeated question of whether BTC is for payments—or more of a store of value.
