zkSNACKs, the developer of Wasabi Wallet, and Francis Pouliot, CEO of Bull Bitcoin, have donated 0.86 BTC for the growth and development of Bitcoin Knots.

Bitcoin Knots is an open-source enhanced full node and bitcoin wallet software that can be used as an alternative to the more popular Bitcoin Core. In particular, like Tor, Avalonia and NBitcoin, it enables the privacy-focused Wasabi Bitcoin Wallet.

Indeed Wasabi Wallet is based on the Bitcoin Knots software developed by Luke-Jr, which is why it was selected to receive this donation.

The fact is that this is open-source software, and it is very difficult to find financial incentives for developers of such software.

Wasabi Wallet, for example, is an open-source software with an MIT licence, but it is backed by a private company, zkSNACKs, which supports its development. It is also a non-custodial wallet that implements CoinJoin in a trustless way to protect user privacy.

Bull Bitcoin on the other hand is a Canadian exchange for buying and selling Bitcoin, and is designed to enable users to maintain full control of BTC when buying, selling or spending bitcoin on the platform.

For these reasons, zkSNACKs and Francis Pouliot have each put up 0.43 BTC to donate a contribution of approximately $40,000 to support Bitcoin Knots’ own growth and development.

Pouliot stated:

“Cypherpunks write code, but cypherpunks don’t always get paid. We can’t expect the world’s most talented experts to contribute indefinitely without financial compensation. If the companies that profit from Bitcoin open-source development don’t provide the necessary funding, who will?”.

The list of Luke-Jr’s contributions and achievements is very long, the knowledge, skills and expertise he possesses are described as “invaluable”, or even unparalleled. He has been, and remains, one of the most valuable contributors to the development of Bitcoin.
