Is Amazon down? App and website not working for some UK users amid reports of Sky Shield problems

Thousands of people in the UK are reporting that they have been unable to access Amazon since Thursday afternoon.

People have struggled to log in and make purchases since roughly 6pm yesterday.

However, the issue does not appear to be with Amazon itself, but with Sky.

The only people reporting issues are Sky Broadband customers. Users have indicated that it is specifically Sky Broadband Shield, its built-in firewall, which is causing the problem.

Why can’t Sky Broadband customers access Amazon?

It appears that Sky Broadband Shield, which is designed to protect against malware and phishing websites, and can be used to block adult content, is accidentally blocking Amazon.

Both the Amazon website and app are not working for Sky broadband customers.

The issue only appears to be affecting people in the UK.

Mike Sutton complained on Twitter: “Why can’t I and so many others not view Amazon’s website? This problem started yesterday and still down today? I am paying for Amazon Prime. Will we all get a refund? Is Sky Broadband to blame?”

Amy Moffett added: “There appears to be an issue with Sky Broadband and Amazon Prime and Amazon websites. I am unable to get these to load correctly using my Sky WiFi but when using phone data they load fine so seems to be a sky issue not an Amazon one.”

i has contacted both Sky and Amazon for comment.

Is there a way around it?

One easy fix, if you are using your phone, is to turn your WiFi off and access Amazon using your mobile data.

The other way to get around the problem is to temporarily switch off Sky broadband shield.

You can do this by logging into the Sky Broadband Shield website by entering your Sky ID username and password.

Then, simply scroll down the page until you find the “switch off” option.

You should now be able to access Amazon again.
