PS5 stock: UK stores where you can buy the PlayStation – and how often they restock the new console

2 min read

The PS5 has been selling out rapidly throughout the UK following its much-hyped launch earlier this month.

Sony, the console’s creator, released it online because of coronavirus with consumers told to order it through pre-order pick-ups.

The tech company urged people buying the console to “be safe, stay home, and place your order online”.

But where can you get your hands on one and when will they be back in stock?

Stores selling the PS5

Two versions of the PS5 are available, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which were released on 19 November.

Stocks at multiple British retailers ran dry shortly after orders opened on the morning of launch day.

So far the following online stores have stocked the console, or are expecting more arrivals soon:

  • Amazon UK – Out of stock, Amazon “don’t know” when more will be available
  • Argos – Restocked 3 December at 3am, now sold out with the retailer saying it is “working hard” to get more stock
  • John Lewis – Sold out online, not available in store
  • EE – Only EE customers can buy, restocked 3 December but already sold out
  • BT – Only BT customers can buy, restocked 3 December but already sold out
  • Smyths – Out of stock, more expected in January 2021
  • AO.com – Out of stock
  • Tesco – Pre-orders release day, now out of stock
  • GAME – sales “on hold” although pre-orders available

Which stores are getting stock soonest?

On Thursday, the console was briefly back in stock on Amazon but users reported technical problems when trying to buy it.

Although Amazon showed it as “in stock”, users who attempted to add it to their basket were shown a message indicating that it was not actually available.

Argos also briefly restocked on Thursday but saw its “small amount” of consoles fly off the shelves.

“It’s clear customers are excited for the new PlayStation,” an Argos spokesperson said.

“We released a small amount of additional stock and have seen huge numbers of customers trying to place their orders with us and we have now sold out, we’re sorry for any disappointment this may cause.”

Meanwhile, GAME is offering PS5 pre-order bundles suggesting a live stock release is imminent.

The official Playstation Twitter account thanked people for their interest in a post earlier this week and said more stock would be available in retailers “before the end of the year”.

“We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever,” the tweet read.

“Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.”
