People looking for finance information use Twitter more than any other social network for this. That’s what a recent study prepared by Twitter Brazil’s Marketing Insights & Analytics team revealed.

Published exclusively by Valor Investe, the survey also showed that “cryptocurrencies” is one of the most talked about finance topics on Twitter.

More precisely, the study looked at the 100 most used finance hashtags in 2021. It found that 62 percent of those hashtags involved “cryptocurrencies.”

Cryptocurrencies and finance on the rise

The growing interest in cryptocurrencies is part of an increase in talks about finance in general.

The survey found that between January and September this year, finance conversations on Twitter generated a total of 14 million tweets. It is, therefore, a growth of 400% compared to the same period in 2020.

Of the 14 million tweets, more than 4 million addressed cryptocurrencies, 50% being posted by people aged 24 and under.

Compared to other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, the amount of people who invest in cryptocurrencies is 40% higher on Twitter.

The majority of respondents (53%) said they see cryptocurrencies as the future of online financial transactions.

In addition, 17% of respondents said they would be willing to give up a bank account to use cryptocurrencies.

81% of people plan to save more

The survey also found that 81% of people using Twitter are planning to save more money in the next year.

Still, 66% said they are looking for more profitable ways to invest money. This percentage drops to 61% when analyzing other social networks: Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Finally, the Twitter study investigated people’s financial profile and found that 94% of them have a bank account.

A large majority (87%) said they keep money or have some assets, while 79% have a credit card and 42% work full time. Of the total, 58% are interested in finance and economics.
